I recently visited Bait Al Othman Museum in Kuwait.
The museum is expansive, offering numerous new
details and insights with each visit. Upon entering,
visitors are greeted by an indoor courtyard surrounded
by old Kuwaiti shops. A highly recommended souvenir
shop is located to the right. A small Kuwaiti dhow is
also in the courtyard for visitors to explore. The
courtyard includes full-scale models of old Kuwaiti
shops and a seating area with sofas, tables, chairs, and
a carom board.
The museum has several paths leading to different
sections, each with multiple rooms displaying various
aspects of history. Notable sections include:
-Marine Animals Room and Zoo
- Haunted House
- Pearl-Diving and Seafaring Section: Showcasing
divers, clothing, tools, and pearls.
One section of the museum covers the Ministry of
Information and Kuwaiti shows and programs. This
room features several screens playing famous local
"masrahiyas" (popular drama theatres). It also
showcases costumes worn by national icons during
their theatrical performances in the 1980s, as well as
cinema history.
The museum staff were exceptionally knowledgeable
and helpful. They provided detailed information about
the exhibits and answered all our questions,
significantly enhancing our understanding of Kuwaiti
history and culture.
The museum is rich in historical artifacts and memories
from Kuwait’s past, especially before the discovery of
oil. Each room offers valuable learning experiences,
with many antique items on display. The pearl-diving
and seafaring section, in particular, provided insights
into the tools and lifestyle of Kuwaiti divers.
Bait Al Othman Museum is one of the best museums in
Kuwait, offering a comprehensive look at Kuwaiti
history and culture. It is a national treasure and is
highly recommended for those interested in exploring
Kuwait's heritage. The museum’s extensive exhibits and
knowledgeable staff make it an enriching and
enjoyable experience.
